Electric etching
Well I'm new about etching, so when I call the jewelry tools supplier I have been warned very seriously how dangerous it is and how the environment need to be handled ...
I have to say it was a bit scary. But is there any simply way to do it? We are living in 21st century and the techniques for our life (specially like computer, phone, tv, housewares etc.) all become more and more convenient, smaller and handy.. Can't we find a solution for etching too?
So I did some research and I have to say I should thanks to my high school chemistry teacher educated me a little that time as well.
Here is what I made for my simple electric etching kit: very simple!!
Two 9V battery, stereo wire, clips, a broken stainless steel spoon( make sure you annealed any coat in it), nail polish, wire tape, water, aquarium salt, a glass bowl and silver..
I put 1tea spoon sea salt and 1tea spoon aquarium salt in about 300ml water, then clip the battery and clip on metal on the other side: positive end for the metal you want to etching.
And it just starts!! For a while you will see the silver covered by clouds, don't move it until the end, otherwise it will be hard to peel off later.
I just did some simple drawing for testing. If you want nice hand drawing can cover the surface with nail polish after it dried use a scriber to draw your pattern and scratch off the cover. You should cover the place you want to make it higher
And I use heat gun to speed up dry the coat. Sorry about my drawings... But anyways this is my first etching testing kit for indoor! 1-2hrs is enough to create a nice depth!

Granulation & inlay
I have to say I'm so happy today!!
I finally set a bench at home and can start my own work this week! Even still missing lots of main tools... Only a table ha! :P
Also today I did 2 tests successfully so that can help a lot for my future pieces.
Here the first and sec. pictures are my 925 silver granulation test. And the last is 24K gold leaf inlay silver test.
If anyone wants to know the details about how to make them just let me know. I'm free to share all these informations. :)
I'm pretty satisfied with the inlay one, it shows the real gold color with more naturally painting pattern, gold won't fall off by brass brushing, scratching , rolling mill, acid, firing etc... Cause it just stays inside of silver! Unlike gold leaf gluing, and compare with solder a gold sheet it's much lower cost than you thought!! :D

New year!
I finally set up my bench table at home by myself after new year!!! Sweaty a lot ha! Guess my parents still cannot understand why their daughter always like heavy duty work.. :P
But anyways so exciting now cannot wait to make more works!

New tools!!
Yay! My chasing tools finally arrived! 40pieces all made by hand! Twisted and polished! I'm so exciting to see them, really cannot wait to use them!!
Oh btw this is the new design's testing piece... If you know what I'm going to make!!;-P

Tool fixing
Well this is a good example if you get a cheap tool...
You will have to spend more time and energy to fix it instead of use it!!
Steps like this : Take off the original wedge make a new thicker and bigger one , scrub and sand off the dirt inside of the hole, hammering the wedge back and check the angle , final step can soak it into water fasten the joint..
Anyway it's a good chance to learn how to adjust and fix tools, even you have good quality tools it always need to repair them and make them handy :)
